Seedy toe, abscess and 'false' sole ...........

Do you remember the somewhat spectacular toe crack? Well the path to hoof heaven is never a straight one and living in the UK makes it exceptionally wet and muddy too.

Mud and seedy toe can lead to abscess and so it did in this case.  But every cloud has a silver lining .........

The foot abscessed during the very wet muddy spell we had mid winter and we were dealing with the consequences.  The foot had gone somewhat backwards.  The last 3 photos in this array are June 2011, the rest are May 2011.

And the warmest of thanks to the owner for letting me share these photos.

Oh and yes, the horse is sound and apparently rather 'forward going' - not bad for a girl in her 20's! :-)

The owner of this horse is amazing. H was an insurance write off about 4 years ago - but she had the patience, love and faith to work it through with her. Didn't take that long to get the foot sound enough, took a bit longer to restore owner's confidence that it wouldn't end in heartbreak. Keep your fingers crossed please!

Fab work and special well done to the owner.

I have a mare with a history of numerous horrendous cracks. She started to develop cracks when I put her out on grass 24/7 earlier this year. I was horrified at the speed her feet went splat and cracks developed.
Two months later after being yarded and fed soaked hay the new hoof growth is tight with no continuation of the cracks. Yay!
Years ago when trying to heal her horrendous cracks it took years but the difference of no grass at all seems to have speeded the healing up in her massively.
Just to say my grass here seems to be especially lethal to hooves.

My horses two front hoofs look like the second last picture... my farrier has said she has seedy toe. She is clearly sore on her front feet. Having never delt with seedy toe before - what would you suggest doing?
